Let's make IT this year

Once again, September has come which means only one thing — it is time to teach and to learn! We would like to congratulate you on the start of the new school year. May this year bring you and your students’ creativity, challenges and new knowledge.

At the Tele2 Shared Service Center, we welcome your contribution by providing knowledge and guidance to the students. You are the one who helps them understand the world of technology. Students can already use this knowledge today but it will play an even more significant role in the future. Perhaps they do not realize it yet but after graduating, 65 % of the children who are starting school now, will work in professions that do not yet exist. Regardless of what these children decide on doing, digital skills and knowledge will be crucial for them.

Based on the study we conducted last year, currently, not many children would like to work in IT — only 2.1 % girls and 12.7 % boys (students from 8th and 9th grade) plan to have a career related to IT. A possible reason behind it — stereotypes. Many students do not feel like working in IT is creative enough. Children also do not have enough information available to them about career opportunities in IT field and there is also lack of encouragement from relatives and peers when it comes to choosing this specific field.

This is why we want to help you in this important job that you are doing by sharing information that you can use in classes to promote creativity in children, their imagination and desire to learn about the IT field.

In collaboration with Learn IT education initiative, we have prepared the first video lesson which will help students, starting from 7th grade, to make their own mobile apps within 30 minutes. We encourage you to follow the video guide and create projects on any educational topics together with your students.

Video can be viewed on Youtube: https://youtu.be/BfT8bgOp2Jg

Send links to mobile apps that you created and a short description of the creation process until 23rd of October to e-mail address: info@learnit.lv. The authors of the most creative apps and a thought-out code will receive incentive awards from Learn IT and Tele2 Shared Service Center.

If this education material will be useful for you then we would be happy to continue to collaborate with you in the future by sharing new ideas and knowledge! We will be happy to receive feedback and suggestions!

Yours sincerely,

General Manager of Tele2 Shared Service Center
