There are so many talents around us we don’t even know about. And Jānis Voitkevičs is definitely one of them. Full of energy, optimistic and quick to joke only within a year and a half Janis has climbed a career ladder and became a NOC Engineer. His story is a real success and inspiration for all of us.
While only being the first-course student at RTU's Telecommunications faculty Jānis started working at Tele2 SSC as a NOC Specialist back in 2015. His dedication and hard work paid off, and not long time ago Janis was promoted to an Engineer. “It was a pretty fast ride for me and it took me a while to get used to the new position. The main difference between Specialist and Engineer is that Engineer should ensure that the services for the country are being monitored and managed as good as possible. If Specialist might miss something Engineer can’t tolerate such mistakes and he needs to be able to help a Specialist to spot and fix the mistakes to ensure the best possible services for our customers,” says Jānis.
It is said that running a football team is no different than running any other kind of organization. This is what makes NOC such a strong team. “Our team leader treats us as a football team and whenever there is a presentation there will definitely be elements from a football field or at least something related to it,” laughs Jānis.
Asked what makes him woke up in the morning and come to work, he answered: “I was working in my previous job for seven years. I have climbed the career ladder there but I never felt satisfied with what I have achieved. Here it’s different. I feel like I’m doing something important and interesting and that it helps to develop myself and that is very important for me.”
While Janis was quite humble to comment what was his secret for the career growth, we asked his Team Manager Aleksejs Popdjakuniks about it. "It is his attitude towards work and a perfect combination of a leader and team player skills. He doesn't' take things for granted and always questions if this is the best way to do it. And by the end of the day, he cares not only about his individual performance but about team's results."
