New report regarding Conflict Minerals

In the beginning of September, the U.S. department of Commerce published a report on conflict minerals processing facilities, which we welcome.

The U.S. department of Commerce published a list with more than 400 sites, but they also stated that they cannot determine which of the refiners and smelters that actually finance violence in the war-torn Eastern Congo region. This put lights on the complexity of finding conflict minerals in companies supply chains.

Tele2 is a proud member of the leading industry initiative on conflict minerals, the Conflict-Free Sourcing Initiative (CFSI). The initiative guides companies by publishing lists over validated conflict-free smelters and refiners of tin, tantalum, tungsten and gold (3TG). They also have a list of known smelters end refiners that are using the “high-risk 3TG” minerals.

We welcome the U.S. department of Commerce report and look forward to see further collaboration with existing industry efforts, for example via GeSI, on conflict minerals due diligence.
