Com Hem announces the appointment of Anders Nilsson as CEO and Jon James as COO

Com Hem, the largest cable operator in Sweden, announces today the appointment of Anders Nilsson as Chief Executive Officer ("CEO") and Jon James as Chief Operating Officer ("COO"). Anders replaces Tomas Franzen, whose departure was previously announced and who will be leaving the company on 6 March 2014.

Anders has significant experience of the Swedish media sector, having spent 20 years with the Modern Times Group, including as CEO of the Swedish Free and Pay TV and the Online Business divisions. He joins from Millicom, the international telecommunications and media company (Stockholmsbörsen: MIC) where he was Executive Vice President (“EVP”) of Commerce & Services.

Jon James was most recently at Virgin Media where he led the company’s Broadband and TV businesses following a period as Group Strategy Director. He offers 20 years of experience in the media and telecoms industry, both in terms of operations and strategy.

The appointments of Anders and Jon mark the second and third senior appointments at Com Hem in less than a few months, following Andrew Barron’s who joined as Executive Chairman in December 2013 from his position of COO at Virgin Media.

Following BC Partners’ acquisition in 2011, the company has successfully launched its TiVo product into the Swedish market, selling 38,000 subscriptions and reaching 6% of the DTV base three months after launch; it recently unveiled a record high number of broadband subscribers at 558,300, an increase of 2.8% from Q4 2012 to Q4 2013; and it also announced the acquisition Phonera Företag AB with the strategic aim of accelerating Com Hem’s entry into the B2B market.

Andrew Barron, Executive Chairman, commented:

“It is with great pleasure that I welcome Anders and Jon in their respective new roles – they are very experienced executives, both of whom I have worked with extensively in the past, and who will be excellent leaders for the business. These are very promising times for Com Hem as we look to build on recent developments to continue to generate sustainable, profitable growth. “

“I would like to thank Tomas again for all his hard work. He has greatly contributed to Com Hem’s success up to date. I wish him all the best going forward.”

Anders Nilsson, newly appointed CEO, commented:

“I am delighted to be joining Com Hem as CEO. I look forward to using my experience of the Swedish media sector to help Com Hem pursue its growth trajectory – recent initiatives and performance put the company in very good stead indeed.”

Jon James, newly appointed COO, commented:

“I am very pleased to be joining Com Hem at this exciting time for the company. I very much look forward to working with the team and helping to drive Com Hem’s growth still further.”
