Mobile Operators take the next step on 5G vision and requirements

Frankfurt, Germany – 26th September, 2014

The NGMN (Next Generation Mobile Network) Alliance presented latest results of its 5G Initiative in a workshop last week in Beijing. Leading global Operator, Vendor and Research representatives gathered to review the initiative’s vision and end-to-end requirements and to share their views on potential 5G solutions.

Earlier this year, the NGMN Board, including Tele2´s CTIO Joachim Horn, made the decision to focus the future NGMN activities on defining the end-to-end requirements for 5G in an industry White Paper. A global team is now working on the definition of these consolidated operator requirements intended to support the standardisation and subsequent availability of 5G from 2020 and beyond.

The workstream leads of the 5G Initiative presented latest results comprising future business value propositions, requirement target figures, and architecture options. In an intensive round of analysis and feedback, vendors and researchers outlined their individual 5G vision, roadmap and potential solutions.

Joachim Horn, CTIO at Tele2 comments: ”Tele2 is a member of NGMN and is engaged in the definition of 5G to make sure that our key requirements related to simplicity and cost efficiency of the next generation technology are being included and the expectations of our customers in our markets are reflected."
