Tele2 partners with Scaleway to launch a sovereign European cloud and AI offering in Sweden
Demand for EU-based, regulation-compliant cloud and AI solutions is increasing as organisations seek alternatives to global hyperscalers for their most sensitive and strategic workloads. Beyond data residency, customers now need clarity on ownership, jurisdiction and technology control.
In this context, Scaleway provides a 100 percent European public cloud and AI platform – designed, built and operated entirely in Europe to ensure immunity from extraterritorial laws. By adding Scaleway’s services to its existing portfolio, Tele2 offers a hybrid solution where customers can handle sensitive information in a private cloud, while benefiting from innovative and scalable public cloud and AI capacity. Organisations can access a complete range of network services, security services and cloud services that ensure performance, compliance and long-term control over digital infrastructure.
Tele2 has already secured its first customer and will deliver the hybrid solution to a major actor within the energy sector with high digital sovereignty requirements.
"Our partnership with Scaleway is a direct answer to Swedish organisations’ demand for sovereign, scalable cloud and AI. This move solidifies our leading position in the Swedish B2B segment, combining our expertise in private cloud with a leading European public cloud platform to create a single, seamless hybrid solution. Having a major customer on board from day one confirms we are meeting a critical need in the market," says Stefan Trampus, Executive Vice President B2B at Tele2.
"Sweden is one of Europe’s most digitally mature markets, and we see enormous potential here. Launching our services in partnership with a strong player like Tele2 is a great start. Together, we can offer a credible and competitive European alternative that empowers Swedish businesses to innovate and scale while preserving their technological autonomy and control over the technology foundation their most strategic workloads depend on," says Damien Lucas, CEO of Scaleway.
Scaleway has recently been selected as one of four cloud providers under the European Commission’s Cloud III Dynamic Purchasing System. This €180 million procurement framework enables EU institutions, bodies and agencies to access sovereign cloud services for up to six years, underscoring Scaleway’s ability to meet the highest standards for trusted cloud services.
As part of the €3 billion investment program in cloud and AI announced by the iliad Group, Scaleway is accelerating the development of its public cloud platform with advanced capabilities for AI. Scaleway provides access to high-performance computing resources and works closely with partners in the AI ecosystem to give customers access to the best open-source models as soon as they become available. Together, this enables organisations of all sizes to train and deploy AI models at scale, without compromising data sovereignty.
